CEO Power - Delivering Best-in-Class Technologies!
CEO Power is helping large and small semiconductor companies
alike to simplify the technology qualification process. With
our industry experience and connections, we have chosen a
select few companies and their technologies to represent as
technology specialists.
Rewards vs. Risks In Working with Smaller EDA Companies
Semiconductor companies can greatly benefit from working with
these small and medium-sized companies. Some of these benefits
include:
 |
Access to leading edge technology |
 |
Faster turn around time on product support |
 |
Better ROI |
 |
Greater tool customization |
It is important to keep in mind that while small companies may offer better technology, the technology's maturity must be qualified properly in order to minimize downside risks. This qualification process can prove to be successful but it can also be time consuming and costly for companies.
Verification and Test Challenges
Moore's law has accurately predicted the doubling of circuit
design capacity every 18 months. When design size grows this
rapidly, testing requirements grow exponentially. Many industry
analysts and companies today understand the urgency of solving
today's bottleneck in design verification and manufacturing
test. Many engineers in design, verification, and test would
agree that without capable, leading-edge tools, they cannot
reliably predict product quality and results. This is a big
problem! For large companies, this means decrease revenues
and profits. For small companies, bad quality and results
could determine the company's fate.
EDA Industry
Like many industries, the EDA industry is dominated by a few
major players including Cadence, Synopsys, and Mentor Graphics
which contribute to an overall product revenue market size
of $3 billion according to Gartner
DataQuest. While customers usually rely on these three
companies to provide a breadth of EDA tools spanning a wide
range of the design process, these companies are usually not
where you find a great deal of innovation to solve cutting
edge problems. In fact, their primary mission is to increase
shareholder return. On the contrary, many small and medium-size
EDA companies can start with a clean slate and can focus their
efforts on either solving a new problem or finding a better
and more cost effective way to solve an existing problem.
